Math behind armor - Guild Wars Forums

I was wondering if anyone knows that math behind armor. I see armors with 30 armor and others with 50 armor but I don't know how much of a difference that makes. Also when you are attacked are you only attacked on one part of your body or is your whole body attacked. Thanks
